Hey, everybody!
I hope you’re having a wonderful summer, filled with good books, great parties, sunscreen, and air conditioning. After all, no matter where you are these days, it’s hot. Climate change is a beast, so I hope you’re also staying hydrated as we do the countdown to the first day of school. And, no, that margarita doesn’t count. Neither does the wine.
I spent most of July trying to get myself back in a solid writing groove. It’s always tough to do that after a long layoff. It’s like getting back into the gym; you start slowly until the relevant muscles go “oh, yeah, that’s how it’s supposed to go!” I still haven’t written a new word of fiction yet, but I have generated some new ideas, and that’s as good a place as any to start. Here’s what else is going on around here.
· I’ve been working through a feasibility read of the first draft of a back-burnered project; a superhero noir called Urban Legend. I finished that draft in 2020 and have spent a good while just slowly going through it. I’ve been bouncing it off a good writer friend of mine, Thom Carnell. There’s some pretty gritty stuff in his catalog (some of which I’ve reviewed on this site). We’re also working through something of his that I think will be fun for everyone. More on that to come.
· I’ve finished plotting out a project I’ve been working on since the pandemic started (yeah, I’m slow, don’t judge me). I’ve got between 40 and 50% of the first draft done, so having the roadmap to the end will hopefully make driving the story easier. I’m looking forward to getting back into that really soon.
· As the summer winds down, I’m going to try and rekindle another one of my passions: console gaming. There are a ton of fun and intriguing titles due to release soon, and I want to start talking about them as the weather cools down.
I think that’s all. I will keep this brief, so you can get back to enjoying the summer. Have fun, everyone!
