It’s a new year, yes it is!

2019 is over, and we’re a couple of weeks into the new decade (even though I wonder, can you still call it the new year two weeks in?). Suddenly, it’s like 30 years since the 90s started, and I feel ancient. I mean, remember typewriters? Computers that only showed four colors onscreen? Floppy disks or 16-bit gaming? Or researching something before Google or Wikipedia? Remember corded phones and answering machines? I think my family got our first cordless phone in 1990 and it was a freaking technological miracle!
Anyway, that’s beside the point. 2020 is due to be a big year personally, and here’s some of the stuff coming up in the next couple of weeks.
- After a hiatus from writing new fiction for the holidays, I’ve resumed work on a couple of short stories. It’s taking a moment to get back into the groove of these stories, but I hope to have something to share soon.
- Editing continues on 4play, and I’ve enjoyed reworking this story and these characters that I’ve spent so much time with. A couple of tweaks and changes to the story have me super excited about this project again, and I’ll be looking to do a new round of beta readers soon.
- I’ve spent January reading Neal Stephenson’s 2014 epic sci-fi novel Seveneves. It is easily the most substantial novel I’ve ever read at over 860 pages. I’m about two-thirds of the way through it, and I’ll have a review up by the end of the month. Stay tuned for that.
- I’m trying an experiment this month: I’ll do character profiles of some of the people from some of the stories I’ve written. There will be characters from my books and short stories, both released and unreleased. It’ll give me—and you—the opportunity to get to know some of these characters again, or for the first time.
- Oh yeah, wedding planning begins this month.
January is the month where we set big goals and set the tone for the rest of the year. I hope you guys push through the cold and shatter your goals, whatever they may be.
See you soon!
