Hello, everyone. It’s been a minute; did I miss anything? What’s new?

Of course, the answer to that is everything and nothing. We’ve spent the last three-and-a-half months indoors, learning to make bread, make art, and make do with the fact that our government blatantly could not care less about us.

Did I say that out loud? My bad.

I’ve got plenty to say about our current state of affairs. I’ve got a pen, blank paper, and a ton of grievances. But that’s for later. Right now, I just want to catch you up on what’s been going on in my corner of the world.

- I’ve been reading. A lot. I’ve read a bunch of fiction during quarantine, and reviews are coming. There were some gems in there, such as Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones & The Six or Daniel H. Wilson’s Robogenesis or James McBride’s Deacon King Kong. There were some clunkers in there as well. There are a few to catch up on, so stay tuned.

- Seattle has entered Phase 2, and most of us are back at work. The speed at which the US is reopening, though—against the advice of medical professionals and much to the chagrin of the rest of the world—is a cause for concern. That’s something I’ll talk about this month.

- For years, I’ve avoided talking about current events on this blog for fear of scaring off potential readers. Recent events have made me rethink that. I’ve realized that not talking publicly about stuff going on in the world isn’t really an option anymore. I’m going to have more to say about news, politics, and pop culture. I will have plenty to say about inequality, injustice, misrepresentation. No more heads in the sand.

- On a happier note, I’ve got some new short stories in the pipeline. Look for Billy on July 29th.

- Sports are back (sort of). The NBA, Major League Baseball, and Major League Soccer will begin or resume play on shortened seasons with no fans later this month, with MLS beginning a six-week tourney as its season. I’m looking forward to commenting on all of it.

I’ve missed you all over these last few months. Let’s get reacquainted.
