Okay, fellow wordsmiths!
If you’re like me, then this is the moment you’ve been waiting for. NaNoWriMo is here!
My fiancée and I are all in here at our little writing cave, and we’re both a couple thousand words in going into day two. We have set our goals for this month, and our rewards. This year, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is this:

That beautiful bottle of temptation is honey-infused rye whiskey from Silverback Distillery, just outside of Charlottesville, VA. We recently visited Charlottesville for a friend’s wedding, and one of the highlights from that weekend was an afternoon at the distillery, where they made us some incredible cocktails using this stuff. It’s legit. Our gift to ourselves for completing the challenge? Cracking the golden wax from that bottle, pouring a glass over ice, and letting the sweet, oaky flavor dance on the back of my tongue. I’m not much of a drinker these days, but I’m looking forward to that. It’s just 50,000 words away.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m writing for the joy of telling a story, and I’m doing NaNoWriMo for the satisfaction of completing a project and the love of writing, and all the reasons you’re supposed to do something like this. But what can I say? I’m human, sometimes I need a little extra incentive.
If any of you have set yourselves a little added motivation to finish, let me know! Let’s have some fun with this! Good luck to everyone participating, and I’ll see you on the 30th. Maybe we can share a glass?
