Work in Progress #20: Progress Report, August 2024

Hey there!  It’s been a minute!

I think the last thing I put up here was in March.  The world has sort of shifted on its axis a bit since then, and at the risk of sounding like John Oliver, there’s too much to cover in just one post.

So, to those of you who have been checking this out lately and noticed the sudden disappearance, sorry about that.  And if you haven’t noticed, then it’s probably your first time.  Welcome!

The spring and summer have both been quite eventful, and I found myself loaded more and more with work—the professional, bill-paying kind, not the creative kind.  Some projects got paused, others stalled entirely, but now that some of the dust has settled, I can observe what it all looks like after the latest storm.

• I have been working on some stuff lately, dipping my toes back into writing short stories.  The one I’ve got going has been slow going, but I hope to have it ready to share by the end of the month.  It’s nothing as bombastic as the murderous monster under your bed coming back for a visit, and nothing as salacious as a priest calling an escort for confession, but I feel like it’s been a fun story to tell, and hopefully I can get it refined enough to share.

• I’m also getting back into editing Empire Towers, my New York-based love story set the week before the September 11th attacks.  I recently did a cursory read of it, several months on from the last time I touched it.  I may be a little biased, but I think it’s a damn good story, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

• I’ve got some more Stuff I’ve Read to tell you about, compelling reads from both old and new favorite authors.  I’m happy to guide a trip through my TBR list.

And that’s about that, that’s the catch up from the last five months.  Oh, there will be some stories to tell about the missing time, but that’s what this blog is for, isn’t it?
