Work In Progress #3: Progress Report, February 2023

Hey everybody, welcome to February!

We are still in winter’s icy grip, and it has spent several days this past week below freezing at night. However, there is a sign that spring is not that far away, and I’m not talking about anything as arbitrary as the hallucinations of a giant rodent.

Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training starting February 13!

The more baseball comes to the forefront of my sporting mind, the more reassured I am that the worst days of winter are behind us Whether you like or hate the game, Spring Training is the herald of warmer weather, if nothing else. I’m also excited to see how my Yankees stack up this season, but that’s another story.

At any rate, here’s a look at what’s going on in this corner of the world:

• Edits on Urban Legend are moving smoothly, if slowly. The story is only going through its first pass revision, so the texture is going from rough to slightly less rough. More on that as it develops.

• I’m also heading into the home stretch of the first draft of my 2022 NaNoWriMo project, Empire Towers. There are some ideas I have for the rewrite as I bring this thing in for a landing. The early reviews of individual chapters are promising and at the end, I’ll hopefully have a solid skeleton to work with.

• Once I finish that first draft (this month, if I’m lucky), I’m going to take a short break, then jump into my other passion project, Underground Rhapsody, currently sitting at about 60% done. No rest for the wicked, am I right?

• There’s also going to be some quiet retooling of this site over the next little while. Some changes will be small, others big. Keep an eye out, and I’ll happily fill you in as they happen.

Anyway, as we slide into a new month, I hope that those of you who bought into the idea of New Year’s Resolutions are still on track with them, and if you’re not, then don’t worry because there’s still time. Don’t give up!
